The YMCA’s Youth Safety and Violence Prevention program is about saving lives. MHC is proud to help raise the awareness of the work and of the dedicated team that helps teens realize their full potential, often against tough odds. Outreach worker Mike Almore is one of those dedicated workers and, in response to a pitch from MHC, WGN-TV has declared him one of Chicago’s Very Own.
The Forest Preserves of Cook County launched a new camping program in 2015. For the first time in 50 years, families and individuals could “camp in Cook.” Our media outreach earned significant coverage including this two-day segment featuring the WGN-TV morning team.
The YMCA of Metropolitan Chicago joined other social-service agencies to protest the Illinois governor’s budget cuts to childcare assistance programs. WBBM-TV’s Jim Williams’ live interview was among those coordinated by MHC.
When low temps and snowstorms closed schools, the Y’s doors were open to families. MHC earned coverage by nearly every local TV station, including WFLD-TV, whose Joanie Lum reported and tweeted.
Youth of the Year, a Boys & Girls Clubs of Chicago program, spotlights Chicago’s most promising youth. This Azteca story spread nationally to affiliates and remains viewable on Azteca’s Facebook page.
